the dark and the white swapped places, crown moulding and four new doors
The kitchen was dark with a white island. It is white with a dark island. Nothing moved.
- Refinished, the perimeter to white and the island to charcoal
- Crown moulding added, and four doors made new
- Fifty new handles, on the existing hole positions

01
This is the island before, and it is the white one. The room around it was the dark half. Both colours were already in this kitchen — the job was to put each of them where the other had been, which is a different request from wanting a colour changed.

02
Thirty by nine, labelled, on the back of something in the van. Four doors and a bottom panel were made for this kitchen, and a made-to-measure part starts as a number somebody wrote down standing in front of the gap. The scrap is the drawing until the shop has it.

03
The island afterwards, in the colour the room used to be. Brass rather than the brushed steel that was on it, glass kept where glass was. The granite on top never came off — it is the same slab, over cabinetry that changed colour underneath it.
