The first kitchen
I still remember the first kitchen we transformed, back in 2012. A beautiful home in Old Oakville with solid maple cabinets in that orange-honey finish everyone had in the nineties. The homeowner, Jennifer, was about to rip the lot out until a neighbour mentioned what refacing could do.
She was sceptical when she called. Can you really make my kitchen look modern without replacing everything? A few weeks later — most of it spent waiting on the doors, with her kitchen working exactly as it always had — she had crisp white doors, soft-close hinges, and she could not stop photographing it to send to friends. That was the job that turned into a business, and Kitchen Made New opened properly in January 2013.
Why we do it this way
Kitchen Made New started because we saw too many homeowners throwing away perfectly good cabinets. I had twelve years in kitchen renovations behind me before opening this place, and thirteen more running it since — twenty-five years of watching solid wood boxes with another thirty years left in them go into dumpsters because the style had dated. That is the whole reason the company exists.
Refacing, refinishing and painting all come down to the same idea: keep what is sound and replace what you actually look at. Most of our clients save between fifty and seventy percent against buying new cabinets, and the results stand up beside them.
Doing all three means holding two trades rather than one — cabinetmaking and spray finishing. Almost nobody has both. A painting company cannot build you a door, and a refacing company cannot spray one properly, which is why so many kitchens end up with a sprayed door sitting beside a brushed panel and not quite matching it.
Small on purpose
We are not the biggest operation, and that is deliberate. When you call, you get me rather than a call centre. When we give you a quote, that is the price — nothing appears halfway through the job.
There are five of us. Three come to your house — Nick, Travis and Tung — and two, Robert and Sam, work at the shop, which is where your doors are sprayed. That split is the reason the finish looks the way it does: a controlled room beats a kitchen with dust in it every time.
What we do
The focus is transforming kitchens without the mess and expense of a full renovation.
- Cabinet refacing — new doors and drawer fronts, and the outside of your existing boxes sprayed in 2K rather than wrapped in veneer. Any colour, no seams, and repairable later.
- Cabinet refinishing — for solid wood only. Stripped to bare timber, sanded, stained to the tone you want and sealed under clear 2K, so the grain still shows.
- Spray painting — doors come to the shop, get prepped properly and are sprayed in a controlled environment. No brush marks.
- Countertops — quartz, porcelain and other materials, contracted to fabricators we have used for years and scheduled with the cabinet work so the kitchen shuts once.
Why Oakville
Oakville is home, and most of our work is here and in Burlington. We know the range of it: the older homes in Bronte where the boxes turn out to be worth keeping, and the newer builds in River Oaks that need little more than a colour change.
Living and working here means we understand what people are after — clean, modern kitchens that survive a busy family. We have done projects near the harbour, up in Glen Abbey, and across the rest of the town.
The guarantee
The warranty arrives with the quote, before you have agreed to anything — the terms are set out below, and the point of issuing it that early is that you can read what you are being promised while you are still deciding. Most of the trade sends it afterwards, if at all.
What makes the terms affordable to offer is the specification behind them. Blum hinges, solid hardwood or waterproof MDF doors depending on which suits the kitchen, and 2K polyurethane throughout rather than the water-based finish most cabinet painters use. Cheaper materials would mean shorter terms, and we would rather carry the cost at the front.
Twenty-five years is long enough to know what holds up and what does not, which is why we do not cut corners on prep. Your cabinets get opened every day of their life. Prep is the part nobody sees and the part that decides how long the finish lasts. If something is not right, we come back and fix it.
Around town
We support local where we can — last year we sponsored a youth soccer team.
A lot of the work comes from referrals: a neighbour saw your kitchen and wanted theirs done too. That is the compliment worth having. When somebody trusts us enough to put their own name behind a recommendation, it matters more than anything we could write here.

- Licensed and insured
- A registered business carrying the licences required to work in the GTA and professional liability insurance. Ask any contractor for both before they touch your kitchen.
- Employees, not subcontractors
- All five of us are on the payroll, and the average person here has been for more than five years. Nobody is booked in for the week and gone the next.
- Five years on our own work
- The finish and the workmanship, in writing, issued with the quote rather than after you sign. If it fails, we come back.
- Fifteen years on waterproof MDF
- Three times our own standard term, on the doors and drawer fronts. The 2K finish and the MDF suit each other well enough to make that affordable to offer.
- One year on stone
- Countertops carry the fabricator's warranty rather than ours, because the stone is cut and fitted by the shop we contract. Said here rather than left in the paperwork.
- Thirteen years, same owner
- Trading since January 2013, with twenty-five years in the trade behind it. Every quote comes from the owner rather than from a salesperson on commission.
