Burloak Drive is the seam between the two towns, named for both of them, and we work from the Oakville side of it. Burlington is not an outer edge of where we go; it is the next place along, and a good deal closer than plenty of what we do inside Toronto.
That matters less than people expect and more than nothing. It does not change the price, which is set by the door and drawer count and the days on site, not by the postcode. What it changes is how ordinary the job is. A crew heading to Burlington is not making a special run, and no quote here is quietly padded for distance.
It is worth saying plainly because the opposite is so common. Plenty of companies will take a job well outside where they actually operate and price the travel into something else, so it never appears as a line you could question.
Two halves of a town, and neither is decided by its age
The QEW splits Burlington in a way that is genuinely useful when quoting from photographs — not because of what it says about the cabinets, but because of what it says about the houses.
South of it, in Roseland, Shoreacres, Elizabeth Gardens and the streets running down to the lake, and around Brant Street in the older part of town, the houses are long-established and a great many have been renovated at least once already. That frequently means the kitchen is younger than the house, which is exactly the case refacing exists for: the carcasses are almost never the problem. Frames screwed level to a wall do not wear out. Doors, drawer fronts, hinges and a colour do.
North of the QEW, through Millcroft, Headon Forest, Tyandaga and Alton Village, the housing is newer and a larger share of it is builder-grade kitchen fitting.
What we do not do is decide anything from the year the house went up. Boxes are judged on material and condition, in photographs and then in person — whether a carcass is solid or faced chipboard, whether a base under a sink has swollen, whether a run has racked out of square. A well-built kitchen from decades ago is worth keeping and a poorly-built recent one may not be, and the address predicts neither.
The other thing we do not do is move a wall. Where the layout is the real complaint, no amount of new frontage answers it, and you will be told that rather than sold around it.
What the method is, and why it is not veneer
Doors and drawer fronts are made to your existing openings rather than bought in a standard size and trimmed to fit. The cabinet boxes are sprayed in catalysed 2K polyurethane on site, behind sealed containment — not wrapped in the self-adhesive veneer most refacing companies use, which lifts at its edges within a few years and cannot be repaired once it starts. Hinges are replaced rather than reused.
The finish cures rather than dries. That is the difference that shows up two years later at the handle nearest the kettle, where a water-based enamel marks and a catalysed one does not.
A job runs the same way every time. Photographs, then a written price inside 24 hours that does not move. Day one the fronts come off and go to the booth, and you choose colour in your own kitchen, against your own worktops, in your own light. Then about four weeks when nothing happens at your house at all. Then the five days: containment up, boxes degreased and sanded and sprayed in place, fronts back and hung and adjusted one at a time. We ask you out of the house for two or three of those nights, because 2K is solvent-based and it is not something to sleep beside.
Then we walk the kitchen with you before anything is signed off. The finish is cured rather than merely dry by that point, so the cupboards can be loaded that evening.
