About Kitchen Made New in Toronto — Two Trades, One Shop
Refacing companies cannot spray and painters cannot build a door. Almost nobody holds both, and holding both is the reason this company exists.
Why two trades is unusual
Almost every company that touches a kitchen holds one skill and buys in the other.
A refacing company orders doors from a manufacturer and fits them. It does not build and it does not spray, so the doors arrive in whatever finishes the catalogue offers, and the frames in your kitchen get wrapped in adhesive veneer because wrapping is what you do when you cannot spray.
A painting company sprays and cannot build. So when the right answer for a kitchen is a different door rather than a different colour, that answer is not available and the job gets sold as a repaint anyway.
This shop holds both. Doors, drawer boxes, panels and millwork are made on Barmac Drive, and everything is finished in the booth there. That means the three cabinet services — refacing, painting and refinishing — are genuine alternatives here rather than one product with two names, and it means the recommendation you get is not determined by what the equipment can do.
It also means the frames get sprayed rather than wrapped, which is the single biggest quality difference in refacing and the one nobody explains at quotation.
What we do not do, said plainly
The list is short and it matters more than the list of what we do.
We do not do walls, floors, plumbing, electrical, or structural work. We do not move kitchens. We do not tile beyond a splashback. We do not supply appliances.
And we do not cut stone. Countertops are templated, fabricated and installed by a fabricator who is named in your quote — you can look them up and read their warranty — while we specify the material, price it, hold the contract and schedule it against the cabinet work.
The reason for stating this is not modesty. A company that says yes to every part of a kitchen renovation is subcontracting most of it, adding a margin to the handoff, and inserting itself between you and the person doing the work. That is a real cost and it is invisible in a quote written as one number.
Where you need a trade we do not hold, we will tell you who to call rather than arranging it and charging for the arrangement.
How the work is actually organised
The order things happen in here is different from most of the trade, and it is deliberate.
Photographs first. Wide shots of every run of cabinet, sent by email or message. From those, a written, itemised price, inside 24 to 48 hours. Ninety-nine percent of our quotes are produced this way, and the number does not change once anybody is on site.
Then, if you want to go ahead, a design visit — samples on your own counter, in your own light, with the price already settled. No charge and no deposit taken on the day, which is only possible because that visit is not doing the selling.
Then about four weeks in which nothing happens at your house while the doors are built and sprayed. Your kitchen works exactly as it does now.
Then the installation week, which is the part you feel, and two or three nights out of the house while the frames are sprayed because 2K is solvent-based.
The van leaves the shop at seven in the morning. That is not a slogan — it is the reason a crew working in the Kingsway or Port Credit gets a full day in rather than losing two hours of it to the 401.
The part that is hardest to prove
Everything above can be checked. The licences, the insurance, the warranty terms, the fabricator's name, the reviews.
What cannot be checked in advance is the thing that actually decides whether you are pleased in five years: whether the company told you the truth about your kitchen when it would have been more profitable not to.
The specific version of that here is that we regularly talk people out of the service they enquired about. Refacing where painting would do the same job for less. Painting where the door profile is the real problem and a new front is the only thing that fixes it. And occasionally telling somebody that the boxes are gone and this is a replacement rather than a refinish, which loses us the job entirely.
That is not generosity. It is that a kitchen refaced when it should have been replaced, or repainted when the profile was the problem, becomes a complaint and a review and a callback — and none of those are cheaper than the job we did not take.
Every quote comes from the owner rather than a salesperson working on commission, and that is the structural reason nobody here has an incentive to sell you the larger job.
What backs it
Licensed, insured, and warrantied in writing
Every line here can be checked with somebody other than us, which is the only reason to put it on a page.
- Licensed and insured
- A registered business carrying the licences required to work in Toronto and professional liability insurance. Ask any contractor for both before they touch your kitchen, and ask to see them rather than be told.
- Employees, not subcontractors
- The people who quote your kitchen are the people who turn up to do it. Nobody here is booked in for the week and gone the next, which is most of why the finish is consistent from one job to the next.
- Five years on our own work
- The finish and the workmanship, in writing, issued with the quote rather than after you have signed something. If it fails, we come back.
- Fifteen years on waterproof MDF
- Three times our own standard term, on doors and drawer fronts. The 2K finish and the moisture-resistant board suit each other well enough to make that affordable to offer.
- One year on stone
- Countertops carry the fabricator's warranty rather than ours, because the stone is cut and fitted by the shop we contract. Said here rather than left for you to find in the paperwork.
- Thirteen years, same owner
- Trading since January 2013, with twenty-five years in the trade behind it. Every quote comes from the owner rather than from a salesperson on commission.
- English and Vietnamese
- Both spoken here, and a good part of our work comes through families who would rather have the technical conversation in Vietnamese. Nothing about the quote or the job differs either way.
