After

This kitchen was white before and it is white now. Refacing is not a colour decision.

  • New MDF shaker doors and drawer fronts
  • Three new drawers, new handles, existing hinges
  • Granite, backsplash and layout untouched
  1. The original kitchen with flat white slab doors and a strip of oak banding running along the top of the upper cabinets and the bottom of the base cabinets

    01

Flat slab doors with oak banding along the top of every upper and the foot of every base. Nothing was wrong with them — they were built in a decade that liked them. The boxes behind them were sound, which is the one question refacing actually asks.

  2. The same kitchen after refacing, with white MDF shaker doors, long dark bar handles, and the original granite counter and brick backsplash unchanged

    02

The same run afterwards. Shaker fronts, long handles where the old doors had none, and the oak banding gone with them. The granite and the brick behind the range never moved, because there was nothing the matter with either.

  3. The finished peninsula with new white shaker drawer fronts and bar handles under the original granite counter

    03

Three new drawers, new handles, and the existing hinges used again — the estimate lists all three in that order. The counter and the backsplash are the ones that were here. What a reface replaces is the part of a kitchen you put your hand on.
