Project 68Cabinet painting · Cabinet refacing
Mount Albert, East Gwillimbury
espresso refinished off white, hood box built, island extended
Three cabinets were left off the refinishing quote. They were coming off the wall anyway.
- Refinished off white, with new end panels
- A decorative range hood box built and fitted, thirty-six to forty inches
- Island extended with a new back panel on twenty-four inch cabinets

01
The island, drawn on the floor paper it was standing on. Eighty inches divided into cabinet widths, the dishwasher marked where it has to stay, and the overhang worked out in the margin — fifty-eight of countertop, eighteen hanging past the back. The arithmetic happens before the cabinets are ordered, not after they arrive.

02
The hood box, built and finished before it ever went up. This is the piece the estimate excluded three cabinets for — the range hood cabinet and the two either side of it were left off the refinishing line because they were coming off the wall, and there is no sense charging to paint something you are about to remove.

03
In place, with a band of timber across it. It reads as the thing the kitchen was built around, which is the only way a piece added afterwards is any good. Everything either side of it is the original cabinetry, refinished to meet it.
