Paper, taped to the island it is going to cover. The slats were printed at full size and held up against the actual panel in the actual light, because spacing that looks right on a screen looks striped on a wall. The real panel was cut to 85 11/16 by 34 9/16 after this, not before.

Every door and panel out of a fifth-floor loft, wrapped and standing in the van. This is the ten days people mean when they say the kitchen is away — it is only the fronts that travel, and the boxes stay screwed to the wall the whole time.

The panel and the doors came out of the same gun on the same day, which is the only way a slatted front sits quietly against flat doors. Different sheens read as different colours long before different pigments do.
