After

We do not paint shelves. Three of these were replaced in solid maple instead.

  • Sprayed Stone Hearth, one tone
  • Three new shelves, hard rock maple
  • Granite and floors kept
  1. The kitchen before the work, espresso cabinetry around an island with speckled granite counters and a tiled floor

    01

Espresso doors against a busy granite, which is the combination that ages fastest — two things competing, both dark. The granite is the expensive part and it stayed; it only looked dated because of what was underneath it.

  2. The kitchen mid-job with the floor covered in blue protection sheet, cabinetry masked and primed, and a sprayer working in the room

    02

Blue board on every square foot of floor before a gun comes out. The doors are already away at the shop; what is happening here is the frames, gables and mouldings, which cannot leave the house. This stage is a day of masking and an hour of spraying, in that order.

  3. The finished kitchen in a warm cream with the same granite counters, peninsula and island, and the tile and hardwood floors unchanged

    03

Our own terms say shelves are not included and painting them is not recommended, because a painted shelf is the one surface that takes weight and shows every mark. Three of these were replaced in hard rock maple rather than sprayed and left to chip.
