After

The doors are the same doors.

  • Sprayed in Stone Hearth
  • New brass bar pulls, old holes filled
  • Granite, backsplash and appliances kept
  1. The kitchen before work started, orange-toned maple doors with numbered tape labels stuck to each one ready to come off

    01

Every door is numbered before a single screw comes out, because door fourteen only fits opening fourteen. They leave together, get stripped, sanded and sprayed in the booth rather than in the kitchen, and come back to the opening they came from.

  2. One finished door photographed at the shop, the new brass bar pull already fitted and a strip of tape on the face naming the colour

    02

This is the proof the door is the original one. It went out orange-toned maple and came back sprayed, with the colour taped to its face so the right door meets the right kitchen. Nothing was bought and nothing was thrown away — the boxes, the hinges and the doors are all the ones that were here.

  3. The finished galley run, cabinets sprayed a warm off-white with brass bar pulls, the black granite and mirrored backsplash unchanged

    03

The granite, the mirrored backsplash, the appliances and the floor are untouched. In a condo that matters more than in a house — no room to open up, nothing structural to move — so the only thing that can change the room is the finish on what is already there.
