Three of these cabinets are new. You cannot tell which.

  • Sprayed in Silhouette
  • 57 pulls, antique pewter
  • 3 cabinets rebuilt
  1. The sink run stripped out, the old countertop lifted off and two new white cabinet carcasses standing ready, with the floor papered and taped

    01

Three cabinets came out and were rebuilt — the sink base, the corner unit, and a beverage station that was not there before. The client asked for them. A company that only refaces has to say no, because the boxes are the one thing refacing does not touch.

  2. A plywood drawer box pulled open in one of the new cabinets, the natural ply visible against the white carcass

    02

The drawer boxes are plywood, built in our own shop. Most kitchens at this price ship particleboard boxes with metal sides, and you find out which you have the first time one is loaded.

  3. A new antique pewter bar pull held against one of the original golden oak glass-front doors before the kitchen was sprayed

    03

Fifty-seven pulls, held against the doors before anything was ordered. The old handle holes were plugged with solid wood dowels and drilled fresh — which is why you cannot find them.

  4. An electrical box set into the opened wall during the beverage station installation, wiring visible

    04

Power went into a wall that had none, because the beverage station did not exist until this job. That is a different trade from refacing and it happened on the same visit.

  5. The finished under-cabinet light running along one wall and turning the inside corner in a continuous line, with no break at the mitre

    05

The lighting panel is one piece, mitred and routed in the shop, so the light turns the corner without a joint. Two panels butted together would show a dark gap exactly where the eye goes.

  6. Close view of the LED strip sitting down inside a channel routed into the underside of the panel, flush rather than surface-mounted

    06

The strip sits down inside a routed channel, not stuck to the underside of a shelf. It is the difference between lighting that was designed in and lighting that was added afterwards.
